Philosophy of AAQ

AAQ is dedicated to peaceful, front line action that directly addresses animal cruelty.

Collaboration is chosen as a tool of coordination as this encourages broader participation in preference to traditional forms of closed, management and control.

We feel this benefits the group in a variety of ways:
  • it frees up time to dedicate to action,
  • utilises the ideas and skills of a large number of people as all are equally valued,
  • encourages individual action that empowers, through encouraging self-education and showing respect for each person
  • recognises that some are unable to pay membership fees but can contribute in many other ways.
  • caring for animal rights activists as a strategy for caring for animals

This absence of power and control reflects an understanding of oppressive, power hierarchies, where some are valued over others (men/women, human/non-human, middle/ working class, white/black, educated/non educated, immigrant/refugee, able bodied/disabled, adult/child).  To fully recognise where animals sit in this pattern of domination requires an understanding that injustice within society is systemic.

With the use of a non hierarchical, non  financial base AAQ aims to provide a network for individuals looking to participate in direct action in QLD.  Our aim is to liberate as many animals from oppressive conditions and policies by exposing the animal industries and protection groups for what they are and changing public opinion.

    Be fashionable without cruelty
Each year fashion changes, some years rabbit fur or leather might be 'in'.  Fur and leather are integral to the profitability of the factory farming industry, possibly the biggest perpetrators of cruelty in the world.  Farmed fur animals are confined to small cages all their lives and then anally electrocuted.  Leather for shoes, handbags etc, is the leftovers of meat production.
